Marion County Sheriff Frank Anderson today announced a new warrants division that will go after the more than 25,000 people wanted for crimes including drug possession and theft or skipping court hearings.
“Most crime in our community is committed by criminals who have already committed other crimes,” Anderson said at a news conference. “MCSD’s Law Enforcement Division will specialize in tracking down criminals who have failed to appear in court, have violated home detention or who already have warrants out for their arrest.”Last month, the City-County Council transferred 13 individuals who worked for the Marion County Justice Agency to the sheriff as part of the measure that placed the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department in the hands of Mayor Greg Ballard. The council also gave Anderson funding to hire seven new deputies for unit, bringing the total number of individuals in the division to 32.
This means that each individuals in the division must arrest 781.25 people. More interesting is the question, after the arrest where are you going to put the 25000 that you arrest?
