I notice that this morning after the star story on property taxes there are already four pages of unhappy taxpayers. http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080327/LOCAL18/803270474/1108/LOCAL1901#gslPageReturn
There is not much that I can add or that I have not already said about our new, improved assessment here in Marion County except that mine went up by almost 27%. As I understand it, Melyssa Donaghy, a Meridian-Kessler resident, her assessment went up some 30%.
There are ways to cut or completely eliminate property taxes.
The first step must be government spending at all levels of government. I support that idea of eliminating the office of Township Assessor in all townships in this state. I can see a lot of other positions that I would get rid of if I could, but I am not in office or nor do I have the power to do such.
I even disagree with Mayor Ballard appointment of the Hispanic liaison at, I believe $80,000 per year. On this I ask where is the black liaison or white liaison? And how much is the budget for this liaison office?
I will leave you with this post on the Star forum:

Well, I have been a landlord for the past 12 years. It is my only income. It appears I am going to have to pay $126,000 in additional taxes over the next 3 years. If...I say if!!!, the caps stay in place then in 2010 my taxes will be back to the 2006 level. This is criminal what Indiana has done to real estate!! Shame on you legislatures for letting this happen. This will put me under. Get ready for all my properties to go back to the banks, and my houses to be vacant within 6 months. Marion county is the next Detroit. Sorry for your luck if you live in Marion County!!!3/27/2008 9:21:56 AM
