I want to thank my company.

I just retired from Marsh supermarkets as of yesterday (Friday).
It took some thinking on my part to make this move but after working 45 years of my life, I decided that it was time for me to hang up my hat so to speak.

Being at Marsh for 18 years driving one of those big semi trucks, I enjoyed my job. That last run I found hard to complete because I knew that it was the last time I would be on the road. The drivers and warehouse are members of local 135 of the teamsters. This is the only reason that I was able to take a early retirement, because of our pension.

It will not be easy after 45 years of working not to have a job that I have to get up in the mornings for. This might sound strange to some, but I am use to getting up at 4 am being at work by 5 am. And even on the week-ends I find that I can not “sleep in” like most can do. I was up by 5:30 this morning reading the Indy Star online.

Because of the pension I will be limited to what work I can do on a part-time bases.

A personal note here about unemployment. I have worked since I was 18 and was unemployed for a total of 2 weeks because I took a vacation. It is not hard to find a job if people really wants or needs one. Again, I want to thank Marsh and the Teamsters for making this day possible for me.
