It seems that Greenwood is has taken a lesson from Bart Peterson. They are considering a hotel tax that would lead to a convention and visitors bureau with the purpose of promoting Johnson County. The Greenwood City Council voted 5-1 to preliminarily approve a resolution that supports creation of the tax. A final vote on the resolution will occur at the council's April 21 meeting.
Not only a hotel tax but creation of a local food and beverage tax for Greenwood and municipalities in Johnson County, which would require special legislation by the state.
Where have we heard this one before?
Council member Monica Magna-Rees even had the nerve to say that this money was there for the grabbing with the lines at restaurants. Maybe she thought about saying stealing but as far I know she did not admit this.
So I wonder if the citizens of Greenwood can see the writing on the wall and will stand up as we did in Marion county. I remember getting kick out of several city county meetings because of our income tax raise. I would urge the Greenwood citizens to do the same.
