Unable to attend last Mondays City county meeting, I reviewed it on the net tonight. At the opening statement by President Bob Cockrum, it seems that when someone was speaking in th last council meeting, someone in the public was making obscene gesture for everyone to see. Let me say up front that I do not support this kind of action from anyone.
Councilor Sanders took the opportunity at the end of the meeting to thank the President for taking a stand on the behavior in the assembly. She reminded everyone the heat that the former leadership took last year from the public. I do not remember anyone giving any obscene gesture or speaking anything obscene at the council meeting last year.
The only thing I saw was people trying to show that they disapproved of city income tax raise and several other issues that was going on with the former city council which she was the majority leader of. We did this by cheering the ones who voted the way we felt. Some did yell no new taxes several times. Besides the tax increase, there was the Monroe Gray issue that was all but covered up. Then there was the issue of a counselor not living with the district that he was to represent.
To Councilor Sanders I would have to say the heat that you took last year, you deserved everything you got. And do you remember how many of the public got booted from your meetings? How many got locked out in 95 degree heat? So Councilor Sanders keep your chin up and stop the crying. The election is over with.
