If you do and want to trade it in, good luck. I have heard that most dealerships now have cut out taking them as trade-ins. They have to many on their lots now and are not able to move them out. If you decide to buy a smaller car, you can always sit that big gas hog out in the front lawn and make it a planter of some sort.
Of course the smaller car and truck owners have seen an increase of the value of their vehicles. But I will keep my 12 year old ranger because it runs A-l and is good on gas. Now off to work I go.

My gasoline bill if far lower than a car payment, which is something I've not had in over 10 years. My Explorer gets 20 on the highway and it'd take a lot more than an extra 10MPG gain to make switching worth it. I'm also being very eco-friendly by not buying a new car every couple of years like most people seem to do. And licensing cost less than $100 (I have a specialty plate.) And insurance is lower because it's worth less.
Of course, before long someone will probably dream up a 'gas guzzler' tax so I 'get my mind right', go back into debt and get back into the habit of adding another old car to the trash heap every other year.
