With gas prices rising, Indianapolis police officers could be asked to chip in to fuel their patrol vehicles, which they are allowed to drive for personal use under a long-standing city policy.
City-County Councilman Benjamin Hunter plans to propose a fuel surcharge for public safety officers in an effort to tackle mounting fuel budget deficits in the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police and Marion County Sheriff's departments. He said the proposal could be introduced as early as July.
